The old boardwalk was posing a hazard to users, and there was a need to preserve existing flora. The new boardwalk was designed with less interference to the existing flying fox habitat and included a new lookout to view the canopies with the current flying foxes. Project Components: Removal of the existing timber boardwalk. Installation of new screw piles. Construction of a new boardwalk with Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) materials. Intricate design with curved radiuses for custom made balustrades. Key Challenges and Risks: Working in a sensitive environment, which included the flying fox nesting season required careful planning and coordination to minimize any disturbances to the ecosystem. Working in a high-water table environment, which required the use of specialised equipment and techniques to prevent any damage to the swamp and its flora. Protecting trees and their root systems while screw piling, which required careful monitoring and communication with the client and other stakeholders. Designing and constructing curved radiuses for balustrades, which required customised solutions and close attention to detail to ensure compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards.
