Woolworths Direct-To-Boot Upgrade

Overview: Civilcraft delivered critical civil upgrades for Woolworths’ state-of-the-art Direct-To-Boot (DTB) facility in Auburn, completed in early Q2 2025. The works increased the number of vehicles the facility could service at one time, improving traffic efficiency, and enhanced the customer experience during peak collection periods.

The project was delivered in carefully planned stages to ensure uninterrupted access for Woolworths employees, emergency egress routes, and other contractors completing internal works. Civilcraft also coordinated closely with Cumberland City Council and RP Infrastructure to modify driveways, resolve stormwater constraints, and secure all required approvals while maintaining programme timelines.

Project Components:

  • Establishing the site, including delineation devices and temporary traffic management to safely maintain public and staff access around the work zone.
  • Demolishing existing concrete driveways, footpaths, and pavements to support the expansion works.
  • Constructing a new paved pedestrian entry for Woolworths employees.
  • Installing a raised heavy-duty pavement and ramps, doubling the number of vehicles that could be serviced simultaneously.
  • Upgrading the existing stormwater line to suit the redesigned driveway crossover.
  • Reconfiguring pedestrian circulation paths and fencing to align with the new vehicle exit layout.
  • Constructing new feature garden beds flanking the southern driveway exit.
  • Applying custom line marking to clearly define DTB bays and improve customer wayfinding.

Key Challenges and Risks:

Civilcraft successfully navigated a number of project complexities, including:

  • Maintaining safe operations in a live facility, ensuring continuous access for Woolworths staff, emergency exits, and other contractors on site.
  • Working within confined spaces and restricted access zones, requiring staged construction and strict coordination of plant and materials.
  • Resolving design and stormwater interface issues with Cumberland City Council and RP Infrastructure to prevent programme delays.
  • Managing noisy or high-impact activities within limited timeframes to minimise disruption to operations and neighbouring businesses.
  • Achieving zero lost-time injuries, with robust WHS controls and consistent supervision maintained throughout the project.
